Customer Psychology: Fast Food Restaurants
I don't know if I should title this Customer Psychology or Fast Food Common Sense, but I guess it is a matter of preference. The point of fast food is to be cooked and eaten fast.
Disclaimer: I make these points in assumption that the customer is not waiting in line and the food they ordered is correct and approved by them. Of course, this will be addressed later in this post.
Does it make sense for a customer to order fast food, wait until they get home, and then start eating? Should it be right for that customer to be upset if their food is cold if they waited until they get home to start eating? At that point, does the term "fast food" becomes "wait-until-you-get-home-to-eat food"?
What about choosing Dine-In, Carry-Out, or Drive Thru? If you desire food quickly, and the Drive-Thru is empty, why would you choose to order Carry-Out? Doesn't that destroy the purpose of constructing a fast food restaurant? Drive-Thru(s) are constructed to provide customers convenience, giving them food without having the customer to get out of their car. If a Carry-Out order is basically the same as a Drive-Thru order, then do Carry-Out orders destroy the purpose of Drive-Thru orders?
What about large orders? What if you are waiting in line, and the customer in front of you is ordering over four combos or whatever large amounts of food? Depending if you are able to exit the Drive-Thru or not, why not go inside and order Carry-Out (assuming that you do not have any physical limitations)?
What about the restaurant itself? If you walk into the establishment, and you see that the kitchen is severely understaffed, and the orders are pilling up everywhere, why would you still order from that restaurant? Are there other restaurants near that location, or is that the only place you (and others) will eat from?
What about the order? If you could observe this, you walk in and see that customers are walking back in demanding a refund or orders remade, why would you still order from that restaurant?
Do we [as a nation] crave food so much that we are willing to ignore the long lines, ignore constant incorrect orders being, ignore the cleanliness of the restaurant, ignore the point of fast food being eaten fast and NOT wait-until-you-get-home? Are customers are so fixed on food that they ignore everything else, including their own lives?
